First Impressions
The induction module has effectively finished (although the results are pending), with today being the final day to submit the assignments, so I thought it might be a nice moment to reflect on what’s been happening over the last couple of weeks.
Learning Management System
First, I want to say that I’m quite impressed with how the module materials are structured in the learning management system (LMS). In the previous post, I was talking about how I set up a YouTrack instance to visualize the tasks and assignments, but it seems that that’s already taken care of.
I mean, take a look at this screenshot from a unit’s page:
Basically, it’s a checklist where you can navigate to the individual tasks’ pages and learning materials, and once you are finished with them, mark as completed.
With the Induction Module, the tasks weren’t exactly rocket science: it was mostly about getting to know the LMS, the practices, etc. Also, there’s certain emphasis on learning (or at least having seen) the procedures, regulations, and other documents that outline the student life with UoEO.
Live component
Although the program is 100 % online and remote, the students aren’t expected to deal with all the issues or figure out everything on their own. Over the course of this module, there’ve been at least four live Zoom sessions to introduce the students to the course.
Two of the sessions were held by the university staff to explain the LMS, some of the regulations, and to deal with generic questions, and the orther two presented the opportunity to meet the module tutor and ask them questions regarding the module content.
Unfortunately, I somehow managed to miss both of the tutor’s Q&A sessions, but luckily everything’s recorded and available for the students that cannot attend the meetings:
This post is a part of a series about the Induction module.
